5.0 out of 5 stars wool shorts!, August 31, 2009

If you're of a certain age, you might remember when cycling shorts existed only in wool. Ibex wool shorts are a superior product compared to most of the wool shorts of 30 years ago, especially in terms of comfort and durability. They're also vastly superior to the lycra shorts that dominate cycling these days. Ibex wool shorts are not itchy. They do not sag in amusing ways during rainstorms. They aren't too hot in the summer, but I don't live in a region with blistering summer temperatures. The fit is as good as the Emily K wool shorts I wore in the mid 1970s. Maybe better. The synthetic chamois is good, if not spectacular. I have two pairs of Ibex wool shorts, and four pairs of other shorts -- some wool, some lycra. I always reach for the Ibex shorts first.

5.0 out of 5 stars Ibex Men's Duo Cycling Short, March 27, 2012

Shorts are awesome. I am allergic to latex and have trouble wearing most biking clothes. The wool in the shorts makes a big difference. Shorts fit true to size and are great no matter what the weather.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wool is the techno material you don't know about, January 21, 2012
I've been riding for almost 25 years. I was slow to adopt the then-new synthetic clothing due in large part to, one, the inherently uncomfortable (hot in the summer and not warming in the winter) nature of synthetics; and, two, a group ride seemed to have a brown stink hanging over it from the synthetics' ability to smell bad like no other thing. But, back then, wool was the prickly creature that was cooler in the summer and warmer in the winter, and kept a civil smell about it no matter when, but it itched too much to wear without a base layer. Which seemed to kinda miss the point to the wool ethic.

Smartwool was my first inkling that wool--specifically, merino--next to my skin could be not just an okay thing, but a good thing, a great thing. One thing led to another, and pretty soon I had an Ibex Norse Crew that I wore while X-country skiing and snowshoeing, but still thought of wool as a winter thing, and a cold winter thing at that. But, I knew our ancestors wore... Read more
