Much more than a similar cheaper brand (Performance)I compared. The pad is superb (13mm thick).I was losing interest in my rides due to my sore arse by the end. After my first ride in these it's as if I hadn't even gone. Considering I was wearing 4 yr old Fox shorts with a very thin almost non existent pad, this was luxury. Nice compression around your thighs & the 9" inseam means they don't "ride" up your leg, they stay right above your knees. This pair of shorts was yet another let down.The chamois and the material are both good, but the "enhancements" ie fixing what isn't broken so it looks like you're evolving your product line, are very lame. They added an inch or so of thin material at the very bottom of the leg which is held in place by a huge not very elastic seam (sometimes feels more like a rope) The reason for this is to add "leg grippers". Sorry, but real elastic seams on the legs grip much better and do so without a rope cutting off my circulation above the knee. And just so my crotch isn't jealous of my lower legs, they put a seam right up the middle of the shorts. The padding is definitely adequate. I paid $70 dollars for them and when they got here they had a tag that said $100; I thought that was cool. I have a 33/34 inch waste and the large size fits me really well. They have elastic and some non-skid rubber on the legs that keeps them from riding up. The stitching on the seams is more than adequate; I'm sure they won't come apart for a long, long time. There's a drawstring on the waist that I've never felt a need to use. In conclusion, super happy with my purchase of Pearl iZUMi Elite cycling shorts. |
